Welcome to the Roast
Ox Inn at Painscastle in the beautiful Powys countryside near to
Hay-on-Wye, Brecon and Builth Wells.
The Roast Ox is a traditional country public house but with the
added attraction of a restaurant seating 60 persons, 10 fully
en-suite letting rooms and superb conference facilities with
full audio-visual equipment.
Recently completely renovated and refurbished following a
disastrous fire some years ago, the Inn is steeped in history
and is known to have been in existence for at least 500 years. |
The
restoration after the fire was undertaken using traditional
building methods and materials and finally completed in December
2005. The Inn retains a number of its original features and
provides an atmosphere conducive to a traditional inn whilst
benefiting from 21st century facilities.
The dining room was originally the blacksmith's workshop and was
attached to the inn to provide services such as shoeing to drovers who may have
been in the early stages of a journey to market, with oxen or
cattle.

followed by some local touring, finishing off with a traditional
Sunday lunch before your drive home. |
