The cathedral city of Hereford There is breathtaking beauty in every direction, including rivers, forests, hills and mountains.
Sleepy market towns with old-fashioned shops are within easy access for example Hay on Wye (4 Miles) Builth Wells (6 Miles) or Kington (8 Miles) and a bit further afield the Cathedral City of Hereford (pictured left).
The Ox is conveniently placed as a base from which to visit the many shows that are held in the area throughout the year including the popular Royal Welsh Show, the Brecon Jazz Festival, the Hay on Wye Music Festival and its world famous Festival of Literature. . One of the many book shops in Hay-on-Wye.
Canoeing on the River Wye Anybody with a love of the great outdoors and peace and quiet will truly relish a visit to the area. As an added bonus the tranquillity cannot be disturbed by the ring of mobile phones as they do not work in Painscastle!
Follow in the footsteps of Francis Kilvert on the Kilvert Trail. Kilvert was a famous Victorian diarist who walked and wrote about Painscastle and its surroundings.
